Discover year-long and summer (10-12 weeks) analytical placements available in UK government Departments with the Government Operational Research Service (GORS)!

Operational Researchers carry out vital analysis that covers virtually every area within the Civil Service. By using scientific methods to understand real problems, we help to inform decision and policy making. We use a variety of techniques to do this, including modelling, simulation, designing experiments, and statistical analysis.

These placements are designed to place you at the heart of this work, developing your analytical skills in ways that truly matter and gaining experience of working in a professional environment!

International Women's Day 2022 #BreakTheBias

  International Women's Day (IWD) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. This year we are called upon to  #BreakTheBias . From the International Women's Day 2022 website:  "Imagine a gender equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes and discrimination. Sharp Laboratories of Europe (SLE) (www.sle.sharp.co.uk) is an integral part of Sharp Corporation of Japan. At SLE research is conducted into future generations of display technology, an area in which Sharp Corporation is a world market leader. The available 12 month placement is for a physicist to join a small and innovative team, part of a larger, inter-disciplinary displays group. The post may involve fabrication and characterisation of novel devices for use in flat panel displays (LCD and OLED), test and measurement of optical components, optical modelling/simulation and image data processing. The post requires someone with a strong interest in applied research and good practical skills.
