JOB: Research Associate in Organic Polariton Physics (Department of Physics and Astronomy)

The Department of Physics and Astronomy is currently advertising for the following research post:

Research Associate in Organic Polariton Physics
Department of Physics and Astronomy
Fixed-term for 24 months
Grade 7, £30,688- £38,833 per annum
Closing date: 8 August 2018

We are seeking to appoint a Research Associate to work within the EPSRC Programme grant "Hybrid Polaritonics" that runs jointly with The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Southampton and St-Andrews.

The successful candidate will have or be about to obtain a PhD in physics, or in an appropriate area of materials science or electronic-engineering, or have equivalent experience. The post holder will be expected to conduct experimental research in the physics of organic microcavities, with work
addressing a range of sub-topics including the development of organic and hybrid semiconductors materials and their fabrication into microcavity structures and devices and the development of polariton lasers. Prior experience of organic lasers is desirable as is experience of working with microcavities, strong coupling of organic or inorganic semiconductors.

The post holder will be attached to the Electronic and Photonic Molecular Materials Group (EPMM) headed by Professor D.G. Lidzey. The EPMM group is based in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Sheffield (www.epmm.group.shef.ac.uk/). The role will include working in our clean rooms, device and spectroscopy laboratories and working closely with other students and postdocs at Sheffield developing microcavity devices, structures and performing ultra-fast spectroscopy. The post holder will be expected to work alongside other postdocs and students at Sheffield working on organic semiconductor microcavities and will also collaborate closely with partners in Southampton and St. Andrews.
