The Barclays Local Genius challenge is on the hunt for students across the UK. With regional finals in Glasgow, London, Northampton and Radbroke (Knutsford) we’re throwing the net wide to find future entrepreneurs with real potential to help the community around them.

What’s in it for you? Throughout the challenge stages, our entrants gain one-to-one mentoring and business training, skills workshops and advice to set any start-up apart from the crowd.

Steps to enter

  2. Our panel of Barclays colleagues and business leaders pick the top ten per region
  3. The top five ideas per region present their ideas at the regional finals
  4. The regional winners pitch to business leaders at the national final

International Women's Day 2022 #BreakTheBias

  International Women's Day (IWD) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. This year we are called upon to  #BreakTheBias . From the International Women's Day 2022 website:  "Imagine a gender equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes and discrimination. A world that's diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated. Together we can forge women's equality. Collectively we can all  #BreakTheBias. Sharp Laboratories of Europe (SLE) (www.sle.sharp.co.uk) is an integral part of Sharp Corporation of Japan. At SLE research is conducted into future generations of display technology, an area in which Sharp Corporation is a world market leader. The available 12 month placement is for a physicist to join a small and innovative team, part of a larger, inter-disciplinary displays group. The post may involve fabrication and characterisation of novel devices for use in flat panel displays (LCD and OLED), test and measurement of optical components, optical modelling/simulation and image data processing. The post requires someone with a strong interest in applied research and good practical skills.
