SITE VISIT: Rolls Royce

Would you like to find out about the career opportunities for Physicists at Rolls Royce in Derby? A special site visit has been arranged on Wednesday, 7 March from 1pm – 5pm, and a very limited number of places are available for Sheffield students to join.

The visit will begin with a talk from an engineering fellow on “Why Rolls-Royce needs Physicists”. The talk will go through some of the grand challenges Rolls-Royce has from a Materials and Engineering perspective and highlight how a Physics qualification is incredibly valuable to Rolls-Royce in solving these challenges.

The visit will then continue with a tour of the Rolls-Royce Technology Exhibition which showcases some of the world’s most advanced power systems created by Rolls-Royce and explains technology and innovation behind them.

Location: Rolls-Royce, Derby, the Elton Road site, DE24 8EG.

International Women's Day 2022 #BreakTheBias

  International Women's Day (IWD) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. This year we are called upon to  #BreakTheBias . From the International Women's Day 2022 website:  "Imagine a gender equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes and discrimination. Sharp Laboratories of Europe (SLE) (www.sle.sharp.co.uk) is an integral part of Sharp Corporation of Japan. At SLE research is conducted into future generations of display technology, an area in which Sharp Corporation is a world market leader. The available 12 month placement is for a physicist to join a small and innovative team, part of a larger, inter-disciplinary displays group. The post may involve fabrication and characterisation of novel devices for use in flat panel displays (LCD and OLED), test and measurement of optical components, optical modelling/simulation and image data processing.
