Job details: How would we sum it up?
This is an exciting opportunity for an Engineering or Physics graduate with ability and ambition. You will be responsible for leading the development of the new, improved cryogenic instrumentation capabilities that the company needs to grow its product range and diversify its customer base. In this brand-new position you have the potential to make a big difference to the success of this very small, but very unique Sheffield-based SME.

What are all the practical details?
Starting salary: £23,000 - £25,000pa depending on skills and experience (pro rata)
Location: The Cool Works, Unit 2, Neepsend Industrial Estate, 80 Parkwood Road, Sheffield, S3 8AG
Start date: Flexible – between July and September 2018
Length of internship: Permanent with six months’ probationary period

Role responsibilities    
What would you be doing?
As Instrumentation Developer your work activities will be very diverse and every day will bring fresh challenges, but will include:
• Leading a project to develop a new suite of programmable instrumentation for monitoring and controlling sub-Kelvin cryocoolers to complement a major investment in the software and hardware needed for this purpose that the business is about to make
• Tackling challenges and solving problems in systems integration and automation, and developing programmable user interfaces for products and applications
• Being directly involved in all phases of product builds, testing and quality assurance activities
• Helping to develop new products and scale up production processes to enable the business to grow
Person specification    
What type of person are they looking for?
The ideal candidate will be excited about contributing to the success of the business, as well as the opportunity to learn about the rapidly-growing field of cryogenics. They will also:
• Be a graduate with a degree in Physics or a relevant Engineering discipline
• Possess relevant practical skills and the ability to apply them to a new context, including:
o practical, hands-on experience with LabView software
o practical understanding of both analogue and digital circuitry
• Have excellent planning and organisation skills that will translate into project management ability
• Be an adept problem solver who can use their initiative and think on their feet
• Be able to work to effectively with others and contribute to thinking about the development of the business

Degree:     Be a graduate with a degree in Physics or a relevant Engineering discipline
